It started as a dream, perhaps even a fantasy, was then rolled into a possibility until it finally...finally became a reality. I was given my first horse Hank after my senior year in high school. And what a learning experience that was! Most horse lovers grow up reading the Black Stallion, Misty of Chincoteague, and various horse books that only increase the equine infatuation. But what most people forget to remember is that sadly, real life is not what is contained between the pages of a book. I spent my first couple months of horse ownership realizing that fact.
Fortunately I took a job at a local barn managing about 30 horses and that is where the learning process truly began. I handled old horses, young horses, psycho horses, calm horses, kickers, biters, squealers and screamers, short horses, tall horses and one simply gigantic horse. Suffice to say I was thrown into the world of horses that all of my previous lessons/books simply could not cover. But the grace of the Lord was with me because for whatever reason He gifted my hands for all work that He called me to. I learned so much for the 2 1/2 years that I worked there. I mucked countless stalls, doctored countless horses and learned countless lessons that still help me today.
So 5 years later, I have started Sunset Hills Farm, boarding horses and teaching riding lessons. Gods grace has carried me through all of my adventures thus far and I know will be there for all the adventures to come.
